Saturday 5 September 2020
7:00h – 10:00h – Mysore practice
14:00h – 16:30h – Afternoon workshop: Juicy psoas and conscious core.
The psoas is a deep muscle that is a major player in our body that has many jobs. It acts as a stabilizer between the lower body and the upper body, it is a mover of the legs and it creates flexion of the hips. For yoga practitioners, having a juicy psoas and awakened core has a tremendous positive effect on forward bends, backbends and twists.
In addition to its physical role, the psoas is also an “emotional” muscle and your “second brain.” Stress, unprocessed trauma and emotions are stored deep within your body, and in the psoas muscle. To access this part of yourself and to learn to release it, can be of great benefit to finding more ease, wellbeing and vitality.
You will be introduced to your psoas, learn how through various easy exercises how to align your pelvis, access your psoas and move from your core!
Sunday 6 September 2020
7:00h – 10:00h – Mysore practice
14:00h – 16:30h – Afternoon workshop: Jump back/through clinic
Explore the physics and physiology of flight in this fun and challenging workshop. One of the most fundamental yet challenging parts of the practice, learning to ‘float back’ and ‘glide through’ can seem impossible. Jumping back and through, is a key element of the vinyasa system and is integral to the experience of “flow” in the Ashtanga Yoga practice. During this energizing session you will learn why the jumping vinyasa is such important movement and how to transform the way you move to enable mastery of these seemingly impossible feats of anti-gravity. In this workshop we will explore the components of the vinyasa jump back and through – breaking it down and building it up from wherever you are. Dissecting the physics and physiology of the jumping vinyasa and exploring useful techniques to integrate strength and neuromuscular patterns. In effect you will learn how to lay the foundation for a strong, smooth transition in this powerful vinyasa.

14:00h – 16:30h Afternoon workshop: Ashtanga Yoga for the rest of your life
In her workshops, Santina wishes to reveal methods that will allow you “be with” the Ashtanga Yoga series in a lifelong practice that is a completely pleasant experience. She has realised that those who continue are the ones who are able to figure out how to make it enjoyable. They look forward to their daily practice and nothing can keep them from finding the time to do it. It becomes one of the most pleasant, satisfying and nourishing parts of their day. The others, consciously, subconsciously, or unconsciously, quit practicing. Santina is inspired to align your being so as to establish your Yoga practice, not just for the few days we are together, but for the rest of your life. In this part of the workshop, she will offer her insights, practices (physical, energetic and psychic), drills, exercises and psycho-energetic techniques to support your Ashtanga practice. As well as show you how to modify practice during times of stress, illness and injury.

Santina’s journey from suffering to awareness and understanding through yoga has led her to a rich and real study of yoga as a living practice. San’s practice embodies the Ashtanga Yoga system, and she has diligently completed the Primary, 2nd and 3rd series of this method under the guidance of Mark Togni. Santina first travelled to Mysore, South India in 2014 and commenced tutelage under R. Sharath Jois, grandson of the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and current Director of KPJAYI, the birthplace of Ashtanga Yoga. In 2016, Santina was granted Level 2 Authorisation to teach Ashtanga Yoga, by her teacher R. Sharath Jois. Santina is also a certified Master Teacher in the Nicky Knoff Yoga System.
As Santina’s teacher, R. Sharath Jois, says “Yoga is a spiritual practice;” so through devotion, determination and tender endurance with each asana of her advanced Ashtanga yoga practice, San has developed an intimacy with the physiology and spirituality of our human form. San’s commitment to a life of process, practice and courage cultivates rich soil from which to provide meaningful guidance as an Ashtanga yoga teacher. Santina augments her yoga teaching with her work as a therapist, holding a Masters of Gestalt Therapy — A humanistic therapy focusing on sharpening an individual’s awareness of emotions and behaviours in their experience of themselves in the present moment, to reveal what really “is”.
It is through Santina’s theoretical and applied educational background that enables her to insightfully and compassionately work with students of all experiences and skills. Santina intuitively customizes yoga asana programs that work for every students’ unique constitutions and capacities.
